At a glance

Huoshan dendrobium can refer to a regional trade grouping or to named botanical material. Identify the species, plant part and processed form: Mihu stems, other dendrobium stems, extracts and tissue-cultured protocorms are not interchangeable.

Detail What to know
Chinese name 霍山石斛(米斛)
Browsing group Herbal infusion
Associated origin Taipingfan, Huoshan, Lu’an, Anhui is the inherited association
Material form Identify the actual species and stem, coiled stem, protocorm or extract form

Taste and appearance

The inherited grade comparison describes compact full evenly formed pieces with clear fibrous surface texture, green-yellow colour, a yellowish liquid, clean grassy fragrance and a thick sticky mouthfeel with fine fibres. The highest comparison combines large pieces with a compact small-looking form; that is an old description, not a fixed size threshold. The cup remains contextual; a stem image identical to Tiepi Shihu is withheld rather than authenticate Mihu by it.

The original infused-leaf photograph is withheld because identical pixels were assigned to another tea name. Its named identity could not be confirmed; the original file is preserved.

The cover is the original material illustration. These images are not TeaPlain tasting samples or proof of origin, grade, age, authenticity or image rights clearance.

Grade characteristics

This preserves the earlier Chinese edition’s sensory comparison. It is not a complete verified current standard table and does not grade your packet. Plant material, growing area, processing and grade are separate details. Decorative star rankings are omitted.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to compare the grades.

Feature Extra grade (old comparison) Grade 1 (old comparison) Grade 2 (old comparison)
Shape Large even compact full pieces, clear fibrous torn-looking surface texture Even thick full pieces with clear fibrous surface texture Fairly even compact full pieces, fairly clear fibrous surface texture

Taste Thick sticky texture, fine fibres Thick fine sticky texture Thick sticky texture
Soaked material Translucent lively thick material Translucent lively fairly thick material Translucent fairly thick material

The old sensory comparisons are retained, not a complete verified current standard or an authentication of species, origin, food suitability or the material in your packet.

Names and origin

The old article grouped Mihu, Tiepi and Tongpi material sold from Huoshan together. That regional usage does not establish that they are one species. The 2023 announcement separately names Dendrobium officinale stems; a 2024 interpretation concerns tissue-cultured protocorms from specified Dendrobium officinale or Dendrobium huoshanense starting material. A protocorm approval is not automatically a clearance for every dried stem or homemade preparation. Verify the actual species/material, category and intended use; the mountain source alone is insufficient.

Everyday benefits

No eye, brain, lung, stomach, memory, body-fluid or yin/yang-balancing treatment is established for this cup. Constituent or laboratory research on one dendrobium preparation does not establish the effect of another species, part or homemade drink.

Who may enjoy this tea

For readers identifying an existing labelled product. There is no recommendation to replace eye, stomach, lung, sleep or memory care with unidentified dendrobium material.

When to take care

The 2024 protocorm interpretation excludes infants/young children, pregnant and breastfeeding people because adequate safety information is lacking for that specific ingredient. Do not silently apply an approval, dose or preparation for one material to another. If taking medicines or Iron supplements, follow their instructions and ask a pharmacist about the actual product rather than assume that all herbal drinks have the same interactions. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies and suitability for children need the identified ingredients and preparation; this page gives no medicinal dose.

How to brew

Identify the species, part and intended use

The old general prose gives glass/porcelain, 1:50, 90–100°C, refill at one-third and roughly three infusions, without first steep time or separately measured Actual water. It is preserved as an archival account awaiting hands-on testing, not a universal protocol for every Huoshan dendrobium product. Obtain the identified product’s complete instructions and advice; unknown stems, extracts and protocorms cannot share one recipe.

Read the original illustration separately

Archival multi-use image, not adopted directions: one panel says 3 g in a boiling water pot, without Actual water or time. Other panels promote chewing five pieces daily, powder, adding 8–10 pieces to soup and alcohol soaking. Piece counts are not measured doses; raw chewing, absorption claims and alcohol preparations are not adopted here. The mixed-purpose image is withheld; use only the identified finished product’s appropriate directions.

For ordinary teaware options, see brew without a gaiwan. Keep each complete method together instead of selecting temperature, dose and time from different preparations.

Adjust your cup

Identify the ingredients and follow the actual food product’s complete preparation instructions first. Once that is clear, adjust within those directions for taste. Do not increase the dose or boiling time of unknown plant material to make it suitable for drinking.

How to buy

Require named species, stem versus tissue-cultured protocorm or extract, actual origin/maker, intended product category and complete directions. A coiled shape or sticky texture does not authenticate Mihu or its permissions.

See buy your first Chinese tea for packet comparisons.

China price reference

Undated figures retained from the Chinese edition, in Chinese yuan (CNY). No original brand, batch, harvest or quotation date was recorded. These are not verified current retail quotes, a market average or manufacturer-suggested retail prices.

Chinese-edition tier CNY per 500 g (one jin) Equivalent CNY per 100 g
Extra grade 1,150 230
Grade 1 600 120

Per 100 g is an arithmetic conversion, not a quoted packet. Do not infer a missing sensory or price tier. Compare actual growing area, style, harvest, roast, weight and channel. A currency conversion does not make a UK or US retail offer comparable to a China historical figure.

How to store

Original storage method

Keep the identified dry product in a properly closed suitable pouch, metal canister or glass container in a dry cool shaded odour-free location. A plain kraft-paper wrapper alone is not a reliable moisture barrier. The source’s ventilation wording is treated as the surrounding room, not a reason to expose dry material to damp air. Follow its actual label and dates; no universal shelf life is established.

Origin, processing and history

The process pictures label fresh stems, heat treatment, twisting, first drying, further drying, selection, grading and final product. They concern coiled stem handling, not tissue-cultured protocorm manufacture. They cannot authenticate species, a particular source, food suitability or clinical benefit.

Common questions

Does the 2024 protocorm announcement cover every Huoshan stem tea?

No such conclusion follows. Tissue-cultured protocorms and dried stems are different materials, and species and plant part must match the actual applicable product conditions. Check the packet and qualified advice.

Can I move one number from this recipe into a different vessel?

Keep leaf form, measured dose and actual water, temperature, timing and separation together. Nominal capacity or a fill fraction is not a measured ratio.

Editorial notes and updates

Updated 16 October 2026. Valid original descriptions, sensory comparisons, prose and image methods, storage handling, China price figures and usable pictures are retained with their scope. Doubtful medical, ranking and exact historical claims are revised or omitted. Current full grade clauses and historical prices are not certified.
