At a glance

Baihe Huacha is a lily-flower entry whose old text mixes flower imagery with information about edible lily bulbs. Confirm the species, plant part and food-product label before using it; a bulb specification does not identify these flowers.

Detail What to know
Chinese name 百合花茶
Tea family Scented tea
Associated origin The old entry cites Longshan, Xiangxi, Hunan; flower-product origin unconfirmed
Material form Flower material pictured; species and complete formula unconfirmed

Taste and appearance

The retained photographs show orange flower material and an orange-gold infusion. They do not identify its botanical species or establish that ornamental flowers are suitable to drink. The old green-leaf grade table conflicts with these photographs and is retained only as an unresolved archive comparison.

The cover is the original flower-material illustration. These images are not TeaPlain tasting samples or proof of origin, grade, age, authenticity or image rights clearance.

Grade characteristics

This preserves the earlier Chinese edition’s sensory comparison. It is not a complete verified current standard table and does not grade your packet. Plant material, growing area, processing and grade are separate details. Decorative star rankings are omitted.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to compare the grades.

Feature Extra grade (old table) Grade 1 (old table) Grade 2 (old table)
Shape Fine, round, straight, even strips with tips and tender stems Tight, even strips with some tips and tender stems Fairly tight strips with some stems
Dry colour Lustrous green Lustrous green Even green
Liquor Clear golden Bright golden Darker golden
Aroma Fresh and lively Elegant and clear Clean
Taste Full and elegant Full and mellow Fairly full and mellow
Infused material Lively and soft Lively and even Lively

This table describes green tea-like strips, not the orange flowers shown above. It is not validated as a lily-flower grading scheme and must not be used to buy or grade a product. Keeping its wording documents the inconsistency; it does not resolve the species.

Names and origin

Baihe may refer to lily material, but flowers and underground bulb scales are different plant parts. The Longshan geographical-indication requirements concern bulb products, with fresh clustered bulbs and dried scales. Reporting also distinguishes local cut-flower tourism from bulb sales. Neither certifies the identity or food suitability of the pictured orange flowers. Longshan is in Xiangxi, Hunan; the old administrative wording placing it in Jishou is not retained. Its claim of tens of millions of mu is unsupported and omitted.

Everyday benefits

The useful role here is an enjoyable drink with a particular aroma, not a treatment. Where tea leaves are included, the drink contains caffeine unless specifically decaffeinated. A flower-only product and a tea-based blend must be distinguished on the actual label. The former page’s claims about sleep, immunity, weight loss or disease do not establish effects of a brewed cup.

Who may enjoy this tea

Choose only a traceable food product whose botanical identity and directions are clear. This page cannot recommend the unidentified pictured material for insomnia, menopause or coughs.

When to take care

The botanical identity and food suitability of the original flower material remain unconfirmed. Do not infer safety from edible lily bulbs or from a hot-water recipe. For pregnancy, breastfeeding, children or use with medicines, do not choose an unidentified botanical infusion; discuss the complete labelled product with a qualified clinician. Known ingredient allergies matter. There is no basis here to prescribe it for sleep or coughs.

Iron supplements: if the actual formula includes tea leaves, follow prescribed iron directions and ask the pharmacist about separation from tea. Do not assume that the unidentified formula is caffeine-free.

How to brew

Identity check before preparation: the old text does not establish the flowers’ species or food-product identity. The following method is retained for documentation, not a checked serving recommendation.

Original prose: glass or porcelain cup

The inherited method uses 1:50, 90–100°C / 194–212°F, refilling at about one-third liquid remaining, with roughly three refills. No first steeping time is supplied. This is a retained method, not a universal recipe for every formulation.

Detail Original prose with an explicit ratio example
Material 3 g as an editorial arithmetic example, only if suitable for the identified product
Actual water 150 mL / about 5.1 US fl oz, measured actual water at 1:50
Vessel Heat-safe glass or porcelain cup with room for material and water
Temperature 90–100°C / 194–212°F
First drink No time recorded; use a complete packet method
Refill About one-third remaining; around three refills is not a strength guarantee

These inherited directions and arithmetic examples are awaiting hands-on testing. Follow the actual food product’s ingredients and full instructions first. Leaf form, added ingredients and bag size matter; the same name does not establish a serving. Strain or transfer to stop continuous extraction, and let the cup cool enough to sip.

Read the original illustration separately

Unverified flower recipe, preserved as documentation: the graphic says five flowers, wash them, place in a pot, add 500 mL boiling water, steep 3–5 minutes, then optionally add honey. It gives no mass, species, food-grade identification or formula. Five flowers is not an established safe serving for unidentified material. Do not substitute an edible-bulb dose or use ornamental flowers. The separate 1:50 prose also fails to identify the ingredient and is not a verified recommendation.

Original Chinese brewing illustrationRead the pictured conditions separately from the prose; no TeaPlain brewing test or product identity is established.

For ordinary teaware options, see brew without a gaiwan. Keep each complete method together instead of selecting temperature, dose and time from different preparations.

Adjust your cup

First resolve the material identity and obtain a complete food-product method. Do not increase the amount or steep longer to compensate for unidentified flowers. Only after the product is clearly identified should its own directions guide any taste adjustment. A photograph cannot supply missing safety or ingredient information.

How to buy

Require a species name, plant part, full ingredients, named food producer and preparation directions. Do not use florist flowers or an unidentified garden plant as a substitute. A Longshan bulb-origin statement is insufficient to authenticate flower tea.

See buy your first Chinese tea for packet comparisons.

China price reference

Undated figures retained from the Chinese edition, in Chinese yuan (CNY). No original brand, batch, harvest or quotation date was recorded. These are not verified current retail quotes, a market average or manufacturer-suggested retail prices.

Chinese-edition tier CNY per 500 g (one jin) Equivalent CNY per 100 g
Extra grade 500 100
Grade 1 350 70
Grade 2 190 38

Per 100 g is an arithmetic conversion, not a quoted packet. Do not infer a missing sensory or price tier. Compare actual growing area, style, harvest, roast, weight and channel. A currency conversion does not make a UK or US retail offer comparable to a China historical figure.

How to store

Original storage method

Retain the original sealed, dry, moisture-protected and light-protected handling, with a ceramic or metal container around the sealed food pack. A container does not establish ingredient identity or shelf life. Follow the named producer’s date and specified conditions; no universal expiry is verified.

In a UK or US kitchen

Keep a working pack away from the hob or stove, dishwasher steam, spices and sunlight. Reseal promptly with dry hands and a dry scoop. If the actual label calls for cold storage, use an odour-proof moisture barrier and let the pack warm while sealed before opening; refrigeration does not reset its date. See storing opened tea.

Origin, processing and history

The original map says picking, sorting, spreading/cooling, removing water, drying and storing. It provides no species identification, food-suitability assessment or validated preparation. The Longshan bulb specification instead includes separating and blanching bulb scales before drying; it cannot validate the flower map. Claims of preserved biological activity or therapeutic sleep/cough benefits are not retained.

Common questions

Can I replace edible lily bulbs with these flowers?

No equivalence is established here. A packet of edible bulb scales, a labelled flower infusion and an ornamental lily are different products. Ask the seller for the exact species, plant part and intended food use; do not identify an ingredient or serving from a photograph.

Can I move one number from this recipe into a different vessel?

Keep leaf form, measured dose and actual water, temperature, timing and separation together. Nominal capacity or a fill fraction is not a measured ratio.
